lau wai's eye of sham shui po

i have lived in sham shui po since i was born.
therefore, i have lived here for 20 years.
this place changed gradually but slower than other places in hong kong.

new and tall buildings are more and more now,
can they be friends with those old and short buildings?

i love ssp, it is a breeding ground for art lovers and creative people,
digital gadgets, clothes, antique... every thing can be found.
old people can be found easily in ssp, too.
they are old, yet are the history of ssp.

Sham Shui Po: Cheap & Fun

Upon the first glimpse, I saw the livelihood of a somewhat lower class community. The temporary shelters on the street and small shops with super-cheap goods showed characteristics of local people's living. As I walked on, I was surprised by the variety of small stores, and some of them had many interesting things. Then I considered Sham Shui Po as a big market with a good sense of humor. People could enjoy an economic life there. Sticking out bed sheets through the window was to me a creative alternative to having a balcony, for example.

從第一張圖可見，深水埗到處也掛滿招牌，殘破的，重疊著。第二張圖可見街上都賣著很平的衣服，然而與旺角等也是賣平衣服的不同的是它賣的明顯是較上一代，較老套的。第三張圖是地鐵站的出口，可見有很多老人家坐著，背對背的，並未有與旁邊的有交涉，明顯地，這地區也是人口老化的地方之一。第四張圖可見銀行的門口放置了一堆雜物，這也正是地鐵站的出口，對於這衞生環境，大家都表現得習以為常。最後一張是攝於地鐵站內，可見有不少少數民族/東南亞的人在這居住，並且是融洽的，這種人也是我們訪問的對象。

Visit to Sham Shui Po by Cherrie Ho

This is the first time I really watch Sham Shui Po in a very close and careful way. I first notice a balcony just on top of some shops when I am having lunch. I know there are other areas that have this feature but I think it is very interesting and I took different doors in Sham Shui Po, including the temple, the commercial building, etc. The temple was surrounded the cars. The old building was built with the modern doors. Old style barber’s shop still opening, etc. these are interesting doors and I think it show what my view to Sham Shui Po.

Old buildings, peeling paint and warming people.

Some people may say Sham Shui Po is the defective side of Hong Kong, I would say everyday details here are really beautiful.

Happiness could be easily found. For children happiness is a playground and a blue sky; for adults happiness is a family and neighbors.

It seems like everything here will stay longer in Sham Shui Po and lives are being lengthened. Buildings are of higher ages, more elderly in the district and relationship stay deeper and longer. Never fades in Sham Shui Po.

The denseness of the district gives people a sense of closeness too. People are forced to know one another and bring thousands of life from different parts to one point. People, makes this place unique form the other districts in which is also the main reason that people found this place lovely and reason of stay.

Colorful parasols cropped up along the busy Apliu Street defines the energy hidden and the diversity in this district. Serving as one of the densest district in Hong Kong, people know how to find their own private space and develop their tough adaptability; also breeding one of the most diverse population area, people learn how to embrace different cultures and share the goods.

Even a big diversity could be found within Sham Shui Po – a thriving electronics market on Apliu Street and the fabric, ribbon stores on Ki Lung Street and button shops on Nam Cheong Street, all comes into one and appears in perfect harmony. This is a wonderful learning lesson about this community, our city and our humanity.

深水埗（張秀君）

深水埗，這裡有珠子街、電器街、衣服批發街、玩具街、二手電器販賣場、黃金（高登）……我感覺的是這裡就像一個藏寶地帶。當你願意花時間在這裡細心找尋的話，你可以在這裡發現很多驚奇。

這裡的人似乎都很有創意，他們可以用最原始的材料“創造”出有自個兒特性的作品。

或者只是一些無心隨便的擺設，你都不難發現當中別具一格的味兒……

“創意”，或者就來自於他們擁有各種的材料。你說得出的，或是你說不出的，他們都有……黑色的彩帶，我還真沒想到……

或者是因為這裡住著的多為草根階層的緣故，你總能找到價錢便宜的一款。另外，這裡還保存著一種神秘傳統。儘管有不少現代人把之稱為“迷信”。

即使是充滿珠光寶氣的商店，也不難發現同一種的取向……

深水埗─Emily

這是我有記憶以來第一次來深水埗，由於一直都生活在新界西，小時候幾乎不會出九龍，高中打後也最多只是跟朋友逛旺角。在尋找訪問對象時，最吸引到我注意的是較為破舊的建築，雜亂而擠迫，卻像拼圖一樣剛剛好把空間填滿，有種構圖上的美感。即使深水埗有一些較新的建築和設施，它依然給我一種舊的感覺，保留著香港以前的種種特色、文化和人情味。雖然深水埗「舊」，但它對我來說是個非常「新鮮」的地域，也是個能給予我不少創作靈感的地方。
